When a vacuum pump is described as CE certified, it is worth knowing what has actually been assessed, by whom, and against which rules. Vague assurances are easy. A certificate number you can check is not.
The Wordfik oil free vacuum pump range that Just Pumps supplies in South Africa holds a Certificate of Compliance issued by FQC Standard, certificate number FQC2533107. Here is what sits behind it.

The Two Directives, in Plain Terms
2006/42/EC, the Machinery Directive
This is the European rulebook for machinery safety. It sets essential health and safety requirements that a machine has to meet by design: guarding, stability, the control system, the risks that come with moving parts, and the information the manufacturer has to supply with the machine. A manufacturer assembles a technical file showing how the design meets those requirements.
2014/30/EU, Electromagnetic Compatibility
A vacuum pump has a motor, and often a control panel and a variable speed drive. That equipment can emit electrical noise, and it has to keep working when other equipment nearby emits noise of its own. The EMC regulation covers both directions: what the machine puts out, and what it can withstand.
On a plant floor with drives, welders and switchgear, the second half matters more than people expect. It is the difference between a pump that keeps running and one that trips every time something big starts up next to it.
The Standards Behind It
Directives set the goals. Standards set the test methods. Five were applied here:
- EN 60204-1:2018+A1:2025 covers the electrical equipment of machines: supply disconnection, protection against electric shock, conductors, and emergency stop functions.
- EN ISO 12100:2010 is the general risk assessment standard. It sets out how a designer identifies hazards and reduces risk, in a defined order: design it out first, then guard, then warn.
- EN 809:1998+A1:2009/AC:2010 is specific to pumps and pump units for liquids, covering the safety requirements that apply to pumping equipment.
- EN IEC 61000-6-2:2019 is the immunity standard for industrial environments.
- EN IEC 61000-6-4:2019 is the matching emission standard for industrial environments.
Which Models Are Covered
The certificate names the oil free range explicitly: VD8 through VD400, the TD range from TD10 to TD40K, KTD60 to KTD400, PVT16 to PVT250, ZSV180 to ZSV650, RTOW500 to RTOW2000, DVS40 to DVS80, and PLWX300 to PLWX1000.
If a model is not on the certificate, it is not covered by it. That is worth checking on any brand, not just this one.
What This Means for a South African Buyer
Be clear about what CE marking is and is not. It is a European conformity regime. It is not a South African legal requirement, and it does not replace whatever obligations apply to your own plant.
In South Africa the duties on an employer come from the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, and where a product falls under a compulsory specification, the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications administers it. Your safety officer, risk assessor or the relevant authority is the right party to confirm what applies to your installation.
What the certificate does give you is evidence. It shows the manufacturer built a technical file, applied recognised standards, and had the result assessed by a third party rather than simply asserting it. When an auditor, an insurer or a client asks what the equipment was designed and tested against, that is a document you can hand over instead of an opinion.
The Other Two Certificates
This range carries three separate certifications. The other two are covered here:
- Machinery Directive Annex VIII, and the technical file behind the range
- EAC certification, and what TR CU 010/2011 and 020/2011 cover
